Katie has gone on vacation to a tropical island to escape her dreary life. She’s been divorced for a few months now, but it hasn’t been the fresh start she hoped for. In fact, her ex feels that it was all a mistake and wants to get back with her, and her friends encourage her that it’s better to be in a bad relationship than to be alone.
But Katie isn’t sure what she wants until she meets an exotic local.. Something about him strikes at her heart and he encourages her to explore herself and her desires, and to take some risks. Katie’s inhibitions are stripped away in paradise.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Katie has recently divorced her husband after discovering he had cheated on her. Now on a tropical vacation to giver herself a break, she is continuously harassed from her ex and friends by phone calls that she needs to return home to her ex. Toxic friendships here! But then gorgeous Kuki Baywatch-strolls by and helps show her how she really should be treated 😉 Very light BDSM, if you can really call it that. One very light erotic scene that does not meet any of the suggestions the book title gives. When I say vanilla, I literally mean it. Also, I think it is very nearly impossible to have sex missionary style on a surfboard in the water…just my thoughts. Let me be frank: A Court of Mist and Fury is more erotic than this…Hell just one scene in ACOMAF is more erotic, and you could pick any scene, even the most vanilla of the scenes SJM writes. There is nothing of Katie’s that is stripped away with the exception of her clothes…
Once again, Alexandra Noir does an amazing job of setting the scenes and giving some back story. Because it is a short story, I can’t get mad for it being that, short. But the end felt like there should have been a few more pages, but someone just chopped it off. I am anticipating Part 2! I really want to know where this vacation will take Katie, as she is still contemplating if she really should go back to her ex, believing he is the best she can get. The story line of this short read has more promise than the supposed erotic scenes.
Had a bad romance read lately? Tell me about it!
